The Nightingale was recorded from so close by that every note and nuance can be heard. It is unlikely that you have ever heard the Nightingale quite like this before. Every whistle, roll and trill stands out loud and clear: undisturbed by background noise or other hindrance. The recordings were made at night or in the early morning, the Nightingale the constant factor in a changing soundscape. He can be heard with a magnificent choir of frogs in the background, joined at other times by cuckoos, blackbirds and a lone Icterine Warbler. You hear him in the still of the night with only the wind whispering softly in the poplars; you hear him competing with his neighbour by mimicking him. The CD booklet contains interesting facts and figures about the nightingale plus an article by Dick de Vos (author of a book on birdsong identification) on the place it has woven for itself in literature through its extraordinary singing voice.
